Our Verdict

LightStream Wins

LightStream wins on rate for any general-purpose loan. LendingClub wins specifically when the goal is credit card consolidation and you want issuers paid directly.

LightStream's rate advantage plus its zero-fee structure saves money in almost every scenario where both lenders would approve. LendingClub's Balance Transfer Loan is the exception, its direct-to-creditor payment removes the temptation to redirect funds and is the reason consolidation borrowers should consider it even against LightStream's cheaper money. For excellent credit and a non-consolidation purpose, LightStream is the correct default.

LightStream is best forExcellent-credit borrowers who want the lowest APR without fees for any loan purpose
LendingClub is best forBorrowers consolidating credit card debt who want direct-to-creditor payment via Balance Transfer Loan
